Alpha Chi News

So, a small update on what has been going on in Alpha Chi:

First, our National President came to visit our Chapter! It was really cool. I got to talk to her for a bit, and she's really nice. Her name is Marsha King Grady, and she was an Alpha Chi in Alabama.

She's in the middle, behind the girl who is sitting down on the step with the white shirt, and she's wearing a blue vest thing. I'm just a couple people over from her on the right :)

Then, a couple weeks ago we had Big and Little week for our new Spring '10 Pledge Class. My Little got a Little, so now I'm a "Grand Big" :) Here's our growing little family!

Then, at the beginning of this month, we had one of the Bi-Annual Philanthropy weeks, Winterfest. It was really fun-Monday night was our Dessert Night, where we had a ton of desserts at the house and charged $5 at the door to get in, and we gave the money we raised to YWCA. We raised about $1,300!

Girls Who Rock

There are a countless number of female Pop solo acts, like Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, etc, etc, etc. But there are few girls who can lead a real band, and sound good doing it.

I'm a fan of these chicks that can actually rock out.

Ensign Peak

I don't think there's been a weekend in a LONG time where I haven't spent most of Saturday outdoors. This weekend I was pretty busy during the day with our Alpha Chi national president coming to visit (I'll do another post on that) so Andy and I decided to go on a hike during the night up to Ensign Peak, which is just above the Capitol.

21 Guns

For those of you who may not know, Green Day semi-recently came out with a new single, "21 Guns". If you don't think you've heard it, if you've ever turned the radio on within the last 9 months, I guarantee you've heard it. Anyway, this is a really cool video and "remake" of the song, sung mostly by the cast from the American Idiot musical (they made a Green Day album into a freakin' musical. Me+Green Day+Musical=BLISS!!!!). Take a listen, it's a little cheesey, but it's REALLY good for the most part!

And Billie Joe is in it. If anything else, watch it because of him ;)

Life

Hello, my few and faithful readers...

Well, this week I've been getting certified for my phlebotomy classes. Which means I have to get my friends to come in to the place I've been taking classes and let me practice on them :D I have to get 15 sticks in, and I'm going to be officially certified by Thursday! Yay!!

Yesterday, Andy and his friend Will came along with Lauren and our friend Matt. It was a lot of fun, and Lauren took a bunch of pictures! But here are a couple that we took with Will's phone, just so you can see me in action ;)

Everyone said it's been painless, and Lauren was glad that I didn't move the needle around in her arm even when I had to look around for my cotton ball. I think I'm pretty darn good! I'm really excited to start working in phlebotomy. I never thought I'd ever enjoy needles and blood and stuff.

Not this past weekend, but the weekend before that, Nate and I had dinner at his new apartment, and we had WINGER'S STICKY FINGERS!!!! They are seriously to die for! I looooooooove them! We got a big tub of them, too!

Earlier that day, we biked around campus, which is a lot of fun. We ran into some guys who were biking up and off these big rocks on campus...there are a lot of places around to do jumps off and stuff. The Utah campus is seriously awesome. I love it! This is me in mid-laugh:

Then, Jesse and I went skiing at Brighton, which was a lot of fun!

He snowboards, and it was almost weird being at a resort that allows snowboarders. I'll say, I kind of like Alta because it's skiers-only, which has two huge advantages:

1. Everyone on the hills are a lot more in control, and you don't have to worry about a boarder mowing you over, since they like to go 100 mph down the hills

2. On snowy powder days, the powder stays intact a lot longer, and the snow in general is better, because boards just pack the snow down too much.

Alta doesn't have any Park terrain, meaning they don't have boxes, rails, or big jumps to go off of. Park can be a lot of fun, but Park also means PARK RATS. I shall give you a lovely example of these types of people:

This is probably a kind representation of what I see. These Park Rats wear RIDICULOUSLY long shirts that go down to their knees at the shortest, and are bright neon colors and their beanies stand up about 2 feet off their heads, and NONE of their gear matches anything. The only thing that matches is that it's ALL NEON. Yeah, it may "cool", "hip", whatever, but just like how we snicker at the neon '80's skiing jumpsuits:

Our kids are going to look back at our styles and be like, "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!" Or maybe this is just the beginning of a downhill slope (pun intended) of bad skiing/snowboarding fashion. Because these two styles are both neon...except the modern style is even MORE ridiculous and loose fitting. The mohawk is pretty cool, too. :)

*sigh*
